- Dr. Christopher Selby selected SC Orchestra Director of the Year
- Recognized by the Kauffman Foundation as one of ten high schools in the nation experiencing consistent student success at a high level in science, math and technology competitions.
- Josh Drews named SC Art Educator of the Year for 2008-09
- Shivani Agarwal, Trevor Auman, Christopher Pasco and Harry Richman named Presidential Scholar candidates
- SV has six National Merit Finalists: Shivani Agarwal, Rachel Arling,Trevor Auman, Christopher Pasco, Harry Richman and Taylor Wells. Two National Achievement Finalists: Terrica Payton and Danielle Wilson. Two National Merit Semifinalists: Amanda Drake and Justin Murphy. Two National Achievement Semifinalists: Gordon Alexander and Dominique Johnson. Also, seven National Merit Commended: Erin Bower, Valentin Lazar, Sean McCormick, Ryan Moran, Vladimir Plotkin, Joshua Smith and Ali Yazdi.
- SVHS Chamber Orchestra received Superior Rating at National Orchestra Festival, the most prestigious and competitive orchestra competition in the country. SVHS was the only orchestra from SC selected to perform and they came in 4th in the nation.
- HSAP test results - 86.4% pass rate for both tests on their first attempt, 92.9% students passed ELA on the first attempt for all grades, and 90.1% students passed math on the first attempt for all grades.
- May, 2008 AP Test results - 251 Spring Valley students (the highest number ever) had an 86% pass rate. 550 exams were taken with an average score per test of 3.77 (the highest in the last 3 years).

- AFJROTC Drill Team wins the Air Force State Championship for the 24th consecutive year, placing 1st in ten events and 2nd in two events. They also won the 2008 U.S. VFW National Drill Championship, winning Overall Championship, All-Girls Junior National Championship and Special Judges Award. Cadets Eron Fayson and Marcus Lara placed first nationally in the Masters Level Dual Exhibition (Fancy) Armed Event.
- Spring Valley was recognized by Siemens Foundation and the College Board as one of the top 50 high schools in the United States based on "Spring Valley's commitment to providing its students opportunities to explore the AP Program and its staff's dedication to student success." Spring Valley was named the Siemens AP School of the Year for South Carolina.
- Recognized again in 06-07 by Newsweek Magazine for being among the top 4% of high schools nationally
