  • Dr. Greg Owings one of three finalists for SC High School Principal of the Year by SCASA
  • Dr. Glenda George, Assistant Principal, selected as High School Assistant Principal of the Year for South Carolina by SCAS
  • Anurag Deeconda and Soorya Avali scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT.
  • Named 2008-09 Top Athletic Program of the Midlands by The State Newspaper
  • At the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, Eric Shine, Anurag Deeconda, Nancy Zhong and Kekeli Dawes were selected as finalists.  Anurag Deeconda - 1st place and $2,000 scholarship, Eric Shine - 3rd place and $1,000 scholarship.  Emily Bakaj, Jake Farell, Sean Noh, Lauren Roth, and Ming Wong were semifinalists
  • $42,305,894 total scholarships awarded to graduates of the class of 2009.  37 Palmetto Fellows, 109 Life Scholarships and 77 Hope Scholarships
  • Josh Drews selected as 2009 SC Art Educator of the Year
  • Hunter Bagnal selected as a Scholastic All American by USA Swimming

  • Merritt Cates won Scholastic Art Award's Gold Key Award, American Visions Award and Silver Key Award
  • Sarah Land earned the top spot of Concertmaster (1st Violin, 1st Chair) of the top All-State Orchestra
  • Girls Varsity Basketball Team wins 2009 State 4A Championship, capping off a 28-1 season.  Coach Anne Long selected as SC Coach of the Year for 2008-09 by the National Federation of High School Coaches.  Coach Long reached milestone 700 game wins in February, 2010
  • AFJROTC won the 2009 Overall Championship Trophy at the Wolfpack Warrior Air Force JROTC Invitational.  They also won the Air Force State Championship for the 24th consecutive year, and the 2008 U.S. VFW National Drill Championship. 
  • SVHS was recognized by the Kauffman Foundation as one of ten high schools in the nation experiencing consistent student success at a high level in science, math and technology competitions.
  • Andrew Ewing, Luke Rhym and Mckenzie Rickman earned perfect 800 on the Math section of the SAT.    Click to view list of all perfect SAT/ACT scores.     
  • 2009 National Merit Semi-finalists: Soorya Avali, Shannon Baker, Travis Byrd, Anurag Deeconda, Luke Rhym and Mckenzie Rickman. National Merit Commended:  David Cooke, Andrew Ewing, David Han, Ji-Hoon Kim, Anne Niehaus, Sally Rausch and Thomas Williams
  • SVHS Chamber Orchestra received Superior Rating (4th place) at National Orchestra Festival. SVHS was the only orchestra from SC selected to perform
  • HSAP test results - 86.4% pass rate for both tests on their first attempt,  92.9% students passed ELA on the first attempt, and 90.1% students passed math on the first attempt
  • Spring Valley was recognized by Siemens Foundation and the College Board as one of the top 50 high schools in the U.S. and was named the Siemens AP School of the Year for SC 
  • Recognized by Newsweek Magazine  in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009 as one of the top 1000 high schools in the nation
  • Palmetto Gold Award recipient for five years 
  • Red Carpet Award recipient  
  • 37 National Board Certified Teachers 
  • 22 Athletic State Championships/16 All-American Athletes/Six played or playing in the NFL/2-Time Olympic Gold Medalist in Track
