Ridge View High School has been selected as one of two schools in South Carolina to received the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Schools of Excellence in Arts Education award. This is an extremely prestigious award that recognizes "schools that have done an outstanding job of making the arts an essential part of the education of their students." Dr. Martin will receive our state award at the keynote banquet of the South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education conference on September 23. As the state nominee, we will be representing South Carolina in the national competition for this award.

Claire Angelac has been named a South Carolina Teaching Fellow, the
state's most prestigious fellowship for future teachers. This program
identifies highly gifted high school seniors who commit to teaching in
the state. Following a rigorous application and interview process,
Claire was selected from more than 800 applicants. As a Teaching
Fellow, Claire will participate in an advanced education program at College of Charleston, leadership development during the summer,
involvement with communities and businesses throughout the state, receive up
to $24,000 in scholarship money. Fellows agree to teach in South Carolina's
public schools for at least four years following graduation

Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, all students wishing to purchase parking permits at any high school in Richland School District Two must complete the Alive at 25 Program. The program consists of a 4.5 hour class which will be taught by certified law enforcement officers. The classes will be offered at all District Two high schools with the first class being offered on March 16th.
