ITEC

Integrating Technology to Enrich Curriculum

ITEC , Integrating Technology to Enrich Curriculum, was originally created to make a connection from the Killian Elementary School Classroom of the Future to the Ridge View High School e-School. Today ITEC has expanded in order to prepare our students for the 21st Century.

The seamless integration of technology into the curriculum encourages cooperative learning, peer tutoring, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. A variety of methods and resources are used to enhance the learning and provide a more intensive training for students in the use of technology. The ITEC Language Arts and Social Studies teachers develop methods to integrate technology into their interdisciplinary units of study.

By integrating technology into ITEC classrooms, Blythewood Middle School students are engaged learners who are motivated, able, and eager to expand and apply their learning. Each year, the ITEC program will expand  in an effort to provide a more intensive training for students in the use of technology.

STUDENT POPULATION

The program consists of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who represent a heterogeneous cross-section of Blythewood Middle School students.

BLYTHEWOOD MISSION

Blythewood Middle School, with the support of families and the community, promises each student a quality education through a unique and challenging curriculum in a safe nurturing environment by instilling the desire to learn, by providing tools to excel, and guidance to become a productive, responsible, self-reliant citizen.

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Technology is integrated into three disciplines using a variety of resources and methods.  In the classroom, students and teachers make use of individual networked computer workstations, a presentation station with laptop and projector, an interactive board- an interactive computer-controlled board, a Classroom Performance System- a wireless response system that gives immediate feedback, a digital camera, and a document camera. In using the available resources, technology is integrated into graphing, research, lab experiences, unit organizers, games, web quests, outlining, PowerPoint, etc.  Technology has been woven into the curriculum to enhance learning and promote student success.

IMPACT OF ITEC

Technology has impacted students in many ways: motivation, time on task, interest, carry over from one class to another, real life experience, cooperative learning, peer tutoring, different learning styles, file management, and differentiated learning.

ITEC affords the opportunity for students to learn from one another, take responsibility for their learning and work as a team. Students eagerly share knowledge and newly acquired skills. Through the use of technology, ITEC offers all learners the opportunity to shine in a variety of ways.
