Planning
Who We Are
The Planning Department, an arm of the Superintendent’s Division, works synergistically with schools and divisions across the district to ensure that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently. Chief Planning Officer, Fred McDaniel, oversees the department and serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Team. Roger Wiley, District Registrar, administers Expanded Choice and supervises enrollment and registration for all students. Additional staff within the Planning team work hard to advance the superintendent’s initiatives and to support school board policies.
What We Do
Overseeing registration and enrollment of students, projecting student enrollment, administering Expanded Choice, coordinating strategic planning with schools, using geographic information systems to create maps and attendance areas and programming schools for design and construction are just some of the support services provided. Responsible planning and ensuring that we are good stewards of the public’s investment in education are primary goals for this department.
Expanded Choice
Though our students are assigned to schools based on their residential address, they may apply to a magnet school, a school with a magnet program or another school within the district through the Expanded Choice program. This program offers parents and students residing in Richland District Two the opportunity to request permission to attend a school other than their residentially assigned school. Parents may apply electronically each January for placement that will take effect the following school year.
