Terry A. McCoy Leadership Scholarship update

Organizers for the Terry A. McCoy Leadership Scholarship have raised $8,500 in just three weeks in honor of the long-time Richland Northeast High School administrator. McCoy,who also served as Director of Student Activities, passed away December 7. He was 61 years old.

During the holidays, organizers held two "First Annual" events: a drop-in for friends and an Alumni Holiday party for the RNHS classes of 2000-2005 and plan to double the monies raised from these events next year.

The total is just $1,500 shy of the fundraising goal of $10,000 by Dec. 31, 2008.

Donations can be made online by following the instructions below:

1. Go to www.yourfoundation.org

2. Select DONATE to access the SECURE ONLINE DONATION link

3. Type the Fund #: "477"

4. Type Fund Name: "Terry A. McCoy Leadership Scholarship"

5. Enter your high school (if not Northeast) and class under "organization"

Donations may also be mailed to: Terry A. McCoy Leadership Scholarship, 2711 Middleburg Drive Suite 213, Columbia, SC 29204. Students who contribute are asked to include the year they graduated on their checks.

No amount is too small. The fund is a 501(c)3 tax deductible foundation. Email family, friends and former classmates who may be interested in donating. Be sure to include your class/school/faculty position, etc.

"The scholarship will be awarded to students who exhibit the strength of leadership and character that Terry sought to instill in us," said Robert Dozier Jr, scholarship organizer (Class of 1986).
