Special election candidates forum Tuesday

The Northeast Columbia community will have an opportunity to meet the nine candidates running for a vacant seat on the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees. The seat became available in October following the death of board chairman Stephen Shellenberg.

A Candidates Forum will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at the District Auditorium, which is located on the campus of Richland Northeast High School.

Doris Adams, Anthony J. Bracy, Regina Corley (a former board member), Angela Koska, James Manning, Dan Neal, Charles Offutt, Thomas Rembert, Jr., and Michael Rodgers are running for the seat. Filing for the seat is now closed. The winner of the at-large election will serve the remainder of Mr. Shellenberg’s term, which expires in November of 2010. The special election will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009.

The Richland Two school board is composed of seven members, each of whom is elected for a four-year term. All board members must reside within the boundaries of the district. Some of the board’s activities include forming and adopting policies, securing funds for operational needs, approving an annual budget and setting educational standards and goals.
